How to Buy a Firearm Online at Shooters World
Popular question: Can you purchase a firearm online?
Answer: Yes you can! Just visit shop.shootersworld.com to get started
Shopping for your next firearm just got easier with shop.shootersworld.com. We’re here to walk you through the process and show you that shopping online is a whole new way to access the world of firearms. (These same steps can be applied to any online firearms retailer)
Before starting the online purchasing process, you’re going to want to thoroughly research the federal, state, and local laws that pertain to firearm sales in your area. Familiarize yourself with eligibility requirements, waiting periods, and any restrictions that may apply to you.
Shopping online comes with its own risks. The same goes for purchasing firearms online. You will want to ensure that you're purchasing from a reputable online retailer that holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL). This license is essential for legally facilitating the sale of the firearm. Make sure you verify the retailer's credentials to guarantee their legitimacy. So, choosing to shop with Shooters World means you can check this step off as completed!
Shopping online means you have access to hundreds and hundreds of firearms and accessories you wouldn’t normally see in the store. It’s important to note that what you see featured online is not representative of a store’s inventory. These are available through distribution so what you see online won’t match what you will see in-store. Explore the vast world of firearms online at the Shop Shooters World website and find the firearm you are interested in purchasing. Carefully review the specifications, features, and any accompanying accessories. Once you ensure that the firearm meets your needs and preferences, let’s checkout!
During the checkout process, you'll be asked to designate a licensed firearms dealer (FFL holder) where the firearm will be shipped and ready for you for pick-up. This dealer will facilitate the necessary background checks and paperwork at the time of your arrival. You may need to contact the chosen FFL dealer beforehand to ensure they are willing to receive the firearm on your behalf. That’s why shipping your purchase directly to Shooters World for pick-up is a win! We see the orders coming in and are able to process and prepare your order with efficiency. Again, choosing Shooters World in this process will save you time, but you are welcome to choose any FFL to pick-up your purchase. (See Step 08: FFLs often charge transfer fees and aren’t included in the cost paid at the time of checkout. Familiarize yourself with the fees the FFL you chose to handle your firearm will incur.)
Note: Shooters World does not transfer firearms to the following areas - California, Connecticut, Guam, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Washington D.CUpon the order's completion, you will need to fill out the required information, which often includes your name, address, and your chosen FFL dealer's information. This information is used for shipping and background check purposes. Hit purchase and you are one step closer to that new firearm!
After you’ve purchased the firearm and the order is fulfilled, the FFL dealer will receive the firearm from the online retailer and contact you upon its arrival.
If you opted for local pickup when shopping on our website, a Shooters World team member will contact you as soon as your order is received and prepared for pickup. We have stores conveniently located in Tampa, Orlando, and Villages.
You'll then need to visit the FFL dealer's location to complete the required paperwork. This usually involves filling out a federal background check form (Form 4473) and providing the necessary identification.
The FFL dealer will process the background check while you are on-site using the information you provided. As long as you meet all the eligibility requirements and the background check comes back as passed, you will be cleared to proceed with the process and ultimately pick-up your firearm.
Something to keep in mind is that FFLs charge a transfer fee when they receive a firearm. This is to cover the cost of handling, process, and release the firearm. This fee is in addition to the cost of the firearm you already paid. Each transfer fee varies and will depend on the FFL handling your firearm. Be sure to do this research ahead of time so you aren’t surprised by this additional cost. Shooters World offers great discounts on FFL transfers when you become a Member! If you plan to buy one or more firearms online throughout the year, becoming a member is a great way to save on these fees.
FFL transfer fees are another reason why in-store shopping is always the preferred method for purchasing a new firearm. Purchasing your firearm in person at your local Shooters World means no FFL fees are required. Shop local and save!
Once the background check is complete and all incurred fees are paid, you can now take possession of the firearm you purchased online. Depending on your location, there may be a waiting period before you can physically receive the firearm, but the FFL you are picking up your firearm will have all of that information for you when they contact you and let you know it has arrived.
